Outside the courtroom, Katie volunteers with her golden retriever, Jamie, a certified therapy dog, for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Misericordia Heart of Mercy. Together they visit and interact with patients to facilitate healing and rehabilitation in a therapeutic setting. Jamie helps patients and their families cope with challenging medical situations, procedures, and stress that they may experience during a hospital stay.
Katie also serves as a mentor to first generation law students for the Diversity Scholarship Program, NFP. This program brings together judges and attorneys with first generation law students in order to provide students with the opportunity to network, ask questions, and learn from attorneys.
